Virtual Library Card
The “Virtual Library Card” helps VDOT employees access collections and services remotely. The bar graph (below) shows VLC growth over the past five quarters. This quarter 5 library patrons separated from VDOT and 19 new cardholders were added, for a net gain of 14 accounts. The pie chart (right) shows how VLC accounts were created:
New Cards from Onboarding (0): We temporarily suspended onboarding activity in January 2022.
New Cards from Self-Registration (10): Some VDOT employees register themselves online. Library staff verify identities, activate those accounts, and send a welcome message and support materials.
New Cards from "Other" Requests (9): Cards created for walk-in patrons or patrons who submitted an online request.
Since 2014 we have "onboarded" new employees based on HR data. The library creates accounts for new personnel and reaches out online. Since January onboarding/offboarding efforts have been negatively impacted by implementation of a new Oracle-based Human Capital Management System. We have suspended onboarding. Offboarding is being done "manually" by Barb Neyman.
