Management Time: Who’s Got the Monkey by William Oncken and Donald Wass,Publication Date: Nov/Dec 1999
The authors recommend steps which they assert will increase a manager's leverage and the value of his or her time management. They speculate that business managers can gain more control over the timing and the content of what they do by increasing the discretionary component of their self-imposed time through minimizing or eliminating the subordinate component. The manager should first enlarge his or her discretionary time by eliminating subordinate-imposed time. He or she should then use a portion of this newfound discretionary time to ensure that each subordinate has initiative and applies it. Finally, the manager should use another portion of the increased discretionary time to get and keep control of the timing and content of both boss-imposed and system-imposed time.
