Using the EBSCO Mobile App: Android Device Installation

Make progress on your research anytime, anywhere with EBSCO’s mobile app! This guide shows you how to find, install and start using the free EBSCO mobile app.

Disclaimer:

The instructions on this page show installation and use from an Android Smartphone and tablet. The EBSCO mobile app is also available for Apple iOS devices, but may look slightly different.

Android Smartphone: Screen-By-Screen Installation Instructions

Step 1:

Download/install the EBSCO Mobile App from the Google Play Store (Android devices).

Step 2:

After installing the app, select "Get started"

Step 3:

On the screen that says
"Let's find your institution"

Type "VDOT" in the search box.

Step 4:

Select "Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)" and then select
"Connect your institution"

Note: It does not matter where your particular VDOT office is located.

Step 5:

Next you will be prompted to enter your Virtual Library Card credentials.

Box 1: Enter your VDOT E-mail address 

Box 2: Enter your library card password

Note: Your library card password is not the same as your VDOT network password.

Step 6:

You should now be in VDOT's EBSCO subscription, where you can enter search terms and see results. 

Note: The initial screen will display "Popular content" until you start entering search terms.

 

 

Step 7:

Tap the search option and enter your terms. 

Example: A search for "carbon fiber reinforced polymer" reveals a scrolling list of articles as shown.

Step 8:

Select a citation you are interested in and the bottom of the screen displays the abstract (which you can scroll through) and a button that says "Read Now"

Selecting "Read Now" displays all your options for accessing the full article.

Note: Select the "<" arrow (upper left) to go one step back if needed.

Step 9:

As noted, selecting "Read Now" displays all your article format options.

"Full text" options vary article to article.

In the example shown here the options are:

Read (HTML)
Read (PDF)
Listen (PDF)

Note: Select the "<" arrow (upper left) to go one step back if needed.

Step 10:

From the previous step we selected the "PDF" option, which looks like this.

Note: In the case of smartphones, it may be easier to read article content using "html" if that option is provided.

Note: Select the "<" arrow (upper left) to go one step back if needed.

Android Tablet: Installation Instructions

Steps:

Start by downloading and installing the EBSCO Mobile App from the Google Play Store (Android devices).

Follow the same steps as outlined above for Android Smartphone.
