We are following guidance from VDOT Commissioner Steven C. Brich placed on VDOT's COVID-19 Planning Information Page and from the Virginia Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control to slow the spread of COVID-19. We will update this page to reflect changes to collections and services as the situation evolves. Effective March 18, 2020 all services will be delivered remotely during normal business hours.
CHANGES: COLLECTIONS
In-Person Library Visits
We are closed to help slow the outbreak of COVID-19. Our doors will be locked and staff are teleworking during normal business hours. Please contact us with your needs regarding access to resources. We are here to help employees with access to more than 1 million electronic books, reports, standards and articles.
Borrowing & Lending Print Collections
Borrowing and lending of the library's physical holdings is no longer suspended, as some staff regain access to collections. We are shipping materials upon request but the process will take longer now than in the past.
Remote Access To Digital Collections
While some databases in our A-Z Resource List (like TRID) are accessible to any online user, VDOT employees also have special access to 15 Full-Text Subscription Databases.
Two Ways to Access Subscription Databases
1. VPN Access: Employees connecting through VPN can access all library databases with a single click. This behaves identically to what VDOT employees use "at work" every day.
2. Virtual Library Card Access: If you don't have VPN access you can still get to all databases! Simply click on subscription database you want to use and you will be prompted to enter your Virtual Library Card credentials. Don't have a card but want one? Follow these instructions and we'll create an account for you immediately.
P.E. Exam Study Materials
NCEES has canceled the April 2020 pen-and-paper P.E. Exam. Registration dates for the October 2020 exam will be announced soon, additional information will be emailed directly to affected examinees, who will receive a refund. We will extend the due date on all P.E. exam study materials currently checked out of the library until mid-November.

CHANGES: SERVICES
Interlibrary Loans
All Interlibrary Lending (VDOT as borrower and VDOT as lender) has been suspended. Our OCLC symbol, TDG, has been set to "non-lender." For libraries we have borrowed from, we are making every attempt to locate and return items. For libraries we have loaned items to, we will extend lending periods as needed.
Document Deliveries
We routinely pull items from our shelves, for scanning/delivery. We are not able to do that at this time, however, we encourage you to contact us with your needs. Increasingly the content we deliver this way is "born digital" and in many cases we can still deliver it to you.
Literature Searches
Our literature search service is running normally. Contact us if you need a search conducted.
Suggest New Sources
We still take requests for print and online materials. Please contact us with your requests and recommendations.
Online Research Support
All library staffers are teleworking but we are here to support the research and information needs of the VDOT workforce. Get in touch with us today!
